final fantasy aki

After work this morning, Ann, her five year old daughter, another coworker and I went out for some breakfast before we took in a matinee of Final Fantasy. Both the coworker and I were a little wary about having her daughter see what we thought might be a violent movie for someone that young, but Ann said that if it got too extreme that they would just leave.

Her daughter surprised us, by not getting scared at all. Sometimes the sound was so loud that her daughter would put her hands over her ears, but that stopped as Ann asked to have the sound turned down. Now when I say loud, I mean loud. In the beginning our chairs were vibrating from the explosions onscreen. Then there were a few times when Ann had her hand over her daughter's eyes to further censor some of the more graphic stuff.

I guess that the movie was about what I had expected to see. It is not a standard shoot and kill cartoon. If anything it has a very Japanese philosophical feel to it that reminded me of Princess Mononoke.
