the shoe incident

I couldn't let this day go by without talking about some of the emotional ups and downs that happened. First of all I stayed late at work trying to solve a problem. It wasn't solved by the time that I left, but I had had enough and I really didn't need to be there anymore. Then after a quick stop at the grocery store I got home to find my driveway littered with children and shoes. Okay, maybe I am exaggerating slightly. Most of the children were on the grass, but there was one boy playing basketball right in front of the garage. Eventually he moved and I made my way up the driveway, when I spotted some shoes lying on the edge of the driveway. Now in hindsight I guess that I could have gotten out of my car and moved them, but by this time I had had enough. No one seemed to care that they were lying there and there was a car in the driveway forcing me over to that one side. So I continued to back up and parked my car in the garage. No one had made any effort to move the shoes. No one seemed to care.

Yes, I ran over the shoes with my car and I don't regret it. I am sure that they were fine. When I got out of my car with groceries in hand, my neighbor asked if me if I heard her. I said no and it was the truth she just seemed to be standing there. Then she told me that I drove over the shoes and I replied oh and walked inside. That was all that I had to say.

All that I wanted to do was sleep and talking with my neighbor about the shoes was unimportant at best. They should not have been there.

When I told Ann the story she was shocked and disappointed. She said that I was being cruel and that I probably devastated the children. Personally I think that she was over reacting. The children had no idea what happened and the shoes looked exactly the same. Then when Ann tried to put one of her own children in the same situation she was even more bothered. She said that her daughter would be devastated if someone rode over her shoes. Sigh.

She made it seem as though I rode over them for minutes. It was seconds at best and no one was hurt.

Oh, by the way my neighbor didn't move the shoes after I was parked. I guess that she didn't seem to understand that they didn't belong there.

I never said that I was a perfect person, but I think that I had reached some kind of breaking point this morning after work. My patience was at an all time low and only sleep could make me feel better.

...

My day seemed better after I got some sleep and I spent part of the night watching Fast Times at Ridgemont High on television. Despite some awful editing, there were still some really good parts. It also reminded me how far away that part of my life is from where I am now.
