something to smoke Rain and fog were my new companions on the drive home from work this morning. It was something that took me by surprise then again maybe not. A true Wisconsin winter has been largely absent from this season. Instead we have been given a California version and I don't mind. Later in the day I found out that we have yet to reach zero degrees this winter which is very unusual for Wisconsin. ... One would think with the overcast sky or lack of one and the gentle rain that I would have slept great, but I didn't. In fact I woke up numerous times as the day wore on. The first time I was shaked out of sleep was to return a movie to the video store before I got a late charge. The second time was because of a bad dream. In the dream I was arrested for moving large quantities of marijuana, which is odd considering the fact that I have not smoked anything since I left Amsterdam a year and a half ago. Maybe I was incorporating some of the movie Blow into my life and that seed of an idea was enhanced by the recent stress at work. I guess that that sounds like a good enough explanation. Whatever the cause might have been, I did not like men in uniform, holding guns, shouting at me and telling me that I was going to jail. ... Smoking pot usually involves a good story of some kind so I feel obliged to tell a few of mine from my less conservative days. There was the time back with my high school friends that I was so high that I blew the bowl into the ceiling of the car. Naturally this was accompanied by the sounds of woe from my two smoking companions. The phrase "Aw, man" never sounded so pathetic as they half reached for the glowing pieces that could have brought them happiness of a sort. Of course I was doing my best not to laugh as I saw the glowing embers spray across the interior of the car. To me it was horribly funny. I've since found out that most people who have smoked pot have experienced this at one time or another. The concept of inhale, not exhale seems to get confusing during a certain frame of mind. The sad part is that I'm no longer in contact with either of those two people so I might be the only one who remembers it. I don't know. An even better time was when I went to a college party a couple of years later. A friend of mine was throwing a party at his house and I said that I'd be there. Once I got there I couldn't find him, but the girlfriend of one of his roommates saw me and grabbed my arm. Soon the two of us were walking upstairs and she led me into a room. Some people were sitting around and I saw that a pipe was being passed. Within moments of sitting down she handed the pipe to me and I did what was expected. Not much else happened afterwards, but I still wonder to this day why she led me up there. At the time I only vaguely knew her and I think that she was seeing someone else. I didn't know then and probably never will know what was going on at that time. Maybe there was a missed opportunity there. I no longer have women that I know offering me pot without my asking. It all seems like another world to me now.
