mary jane danced After some discussion with California Dan who has loved the character of Spider Man for years and much more so than me, I learned that Harry and Mary Jane did in fact date, but it was when they were in college. So yes there was some competition between Peter and Harry for her affection, but it happened later than depicted in the movie. Once again we have that element of time compression at work. It still would have been nice to see Gwen on the screen, but she was definitely a product of the 1960's and that might have been awkward to update. I mean I can't remember her ever not being depicted wearing a headband that would seem oh so retro today. Dan and I did agree about one thing though and that would be that just about any of Spider Man's foes would look awful on the big screen and the Goblin was a poor choice. On the other hand it would be interesting to see them try and interpret someone like Kraven the Hunter who wouldn't require much in the way of special effects. However, I suspect that they will continue with the Green Goblin theme since they already have the costume and flyer. Maybe in the sequel they will go completely over the top and fast forward to when Doctor Octopus and Aunt May got married. Sigh. Yes, there were some very sad episodes in the title, but it also had it moments such as when Gwen died. Oh, well, I think that I have rambled on long enough about a comic book character, but I couldn't help myself since I love the medium so much. I'll be the first to admit that it is after all just a movie. I guess that I wanted it to be better than what I saw. ... After eating and talking with my parents yesterday, I went home feeling groggy and passed out earlier than I had intended. Suddenly Monday ended without me realizing it. Before I returned home, I learned that my sister will be heading to Nicaragua for duty with the Army for the next few weeks. In fact when I leave for Europe she'll still be gone. I'll be in the Old World and she'll be in the Third World and I must confess that I don't envy her. ... As I was approaching the building where my class is held, I saw my professor walking towards it from another direction. We met up at the door and he asked about my upcoming vacation and I ran through some of the highlights for him. It seemed funny telling him about Europe when from what he has told us in class, he's been to Africa, Asia and South America. For being the second to last day of class, the discussion was very animated. The professor offered up the idea that society was moving more and more away from a need for written language. I can't remember all of the details of his argument, but he did prevent a strong case and it got most of the people in class thinking.
