what about uzbekistan Reminder to self. Drinking for roughly five hours before I go to work is not a good idea, because it makes for a long night. Sigh. Thankfully it was a quiet night, but I couldn't enjoy it nearly as much as I wanted. Most of my time was spent wishing that I was home in bed sleeping. Instead of being able to let my body rest and heal itself, I struggled to surf the web to keep my thoughts off of my body. Once the lingering dehydration induced headache went away at about four this morning, I started to feel better. Unlike the past two Fridays nights, I didn't get to spend any real time with Nicole, because her great dane was ill and she was phoning home to get updates on her condition. I did, however, manage to do some more reading about both Barcelona and Mallorca, which is where I'll be this December for my birthday. ... As I said earlier, part of the morning at work was spent surfing the Lonely Planet web site, where I went to as many different countries as possible. I may not be able to get out into the rest of the world at the moment, but that doesn't stop me from reading about the places where I may or may not go in the future. Out of sheer curiosity, I think that I went through just about every African country possible and the percentage of them that had warnings from the United States government not to visit was scary. The continent is definitely not a vacation paradise. Then I made my way through the Asian countries and some of them also had the same warnings. Ever so slowly I was getting the impression that Europe may not be as exotic as Africa or Asia, but at least I'll come back home alive. Leaving that site behind, I did find one very interesting link that I just have to mention. The link was for Uzbekistan, which is a place that didn't enter my mind until Ian on Globe Trekker talked about it. Quite honestly I would have been hard pressed to point it out on a map until I saw that program a few weeks ago. That part of the world is completely unknown to me and that gives it a certain amount of appeal even though it scares me slightly at the same time. Here is this ancient part of the world that the Russians kept hidden for decades. ... Since I was out the last two nights, it felt good to stay home and grill this evening. I could relax on my porch and watch the sun get lower and lower in the sky as the burgers cooked. Quiet Saturday nights are something that I need. Oh, I don't regret the previous two nights, but there should also be a balance between going out and having some time to myself. Of course a night like the one that I had a year ago would have been nice as well.
