her note taking

At first I thought that she wasn't going to be there, but then just as class was about to start she walked through the door and took a seat. The desk that she chose wasn't directly in front of me, but in the row to my right. From there I got a classic three quarter profile of her face and body.

Once she was seated she began to free herself from her winter layering starting with her multi colored scarf and tan yellow corduroy jacket. To me both of those items are very her and are forever fixed in my mental image of her. Then I saw something that surprised me a little. She was wearing the same light brown sweater and paisley shirt that she had wore to class on Tuesday. The only difference was that this time she had paired them with a jean skirt instead of low rise jeans. I didn't mind, because she still looked good.

As class wore by, I let my eyes and mind wander. From what I could see she was just as disinterested by the lecture as me. Her face gave hints of boredom and impatience. Then she did something that made me really curious. She started to write something on the palm of her left hand. From where I was sitting I couldn't tell if it was in fact writing or maybe just a doodle of some kind. This was something that I hadn't seen anyone do since eighth grade.

Then as class was finally drawing to a close and she was gathering her things to leave, I reached out, lightly touched her arm and asked her what she had been writing on her hand. With a smile that made my day, she extended her hand so that I could see and said that she had been writing her homework. Looking down I could see that three block lettered lines of notes were in fact crossing her palm and I found that to be adorable. I didn't linger long on her hand, because I wanted to make eye contact one more time before she left.

To me it was a great way to finally talk with her and at the same time she must have gathered that I was interested in her. Even though I was trying to be subtle, I think that she probably knew that she had caught my attention and I am going to have to talk with her again.
