house left behind

Everyone was there before nine this morning and we all knew that it was going to be a long day of hard work. All of the big pieces of furniture had been moved earlier in the week by professionals, but that still left both garages and the basement for us to empty and load onto the truck. That was more than enough to keep us busy for most of the morning and required a lot of effort on our part. Thankfully the weather was working in our favor. It was warm, but not enough to make it unbearable and the rain stayed away.

As the house emptied out and the truck grew more full, I got a little more emotional than I had expected. I had never seen the place look that way and it made me feel sad. It was finally happening. My parents were moving somewhere new and that one steady fixture in my life was changing.

Yes, I still have my memories, but things will be different and I hope that that is for the best. Obviously the house was too big for just my parents and niece to live there by themselves, but the new place seems small in comparison and will take some adjusting on my part. Then again I won't be living there so it shouldn't matter to me as long as my parents are happy there.
