black kryptonite crusade Wednesdays are what keep me sane, because as of late they are the one day of the week where I let myself forget about work and anything else that might be bothering me. So today to make that happen meant a walk to the library where I checked out three books on China. Then when I got back home the rest of the afternoon was spent thumbing through them as I sat on my deck. Despite the lovely full page color photos in two of the books, there was one drawback. Neither of them was published in this century. One of them was from 1972 and the other was one from 1982. Hopefully the Forbidden City still looks about the same some twenty years later, but some of the cultural references were woefully out of date. In fact one of the book still referred to Beijing as Peking. I'm still working out many of the larger details with the only certainties being Hong Kong and Beijing. Xi'an and Shanghai are also high on the list of places that I want to see, but I have a feeling that there will only be enough time to add one of them to the itinerary. Ideally I'd like to spend three weeks in China like I did in Europe four years ago, but I don't think that that is going to happen. Twelve days is my minimum, but I don't think that I'll be able to reach twenty one. ... Lois Lane finally made her way to Smallville and I was there to see it happen. As to whether or not her presence alleviates some of the teenage angst that has plagued the show from start has yet to be seen. |
