hero and yorick Waking up not knowing the day of the week or what I need to do next is not the way that I like to start my day. One might see that much disorientation as a sign of a very deep sleep, but I think that it took almost an hour before I felt like myself again. I found the whole experience slightly unnerving and hope that it doesn't repeat any time soon. ... Thanks to the world of online auctions I managed to get some copies of issues four through nine of Y The Last Man. Yes, they've already been collected into a trade paperback, but I prefer single issues if it is at all possible. The collector in me loves the hunt and it isn't as though these books were twenty years old and hard to find. Those issues were the last things that I read before I passed out this morning and were the first things that I read when I woke up. Having read the next fifteen or so issues in the series these earlier issues filled in some gaps for me, but there weren't any real dramatic surprises. I knew that Yorick had a sister named Hero. I knew that Yorick, Agent 355 and Dr. Mann were making their way to Dr. Mann's lab in California. I knew that Yorick had a habit of placing his life in danger when he should be doing everything that he can to stay alive. All of those elements were already known to me before today so it was nice that none of that foreknowledge took away from enjoying some clever dialogue from Vaughan and some great art by Guerra. The title is definitely in my top five books that I read each month and I have no idea where it is going next. My only regret is that I wasn't there at the beginning and I can't remember why I passed over the book when it first appeared. |
