credit card fraud

When I woke this afternoon, there was a message on my answering machine. At first I thought that it might be my parents or a friend, but I was wrong. The message was from my credit card company. There had been some suspicious activity on my account and I was supposed to call them back to discuss the details.

Naturally I called them back and confirmed that none of the three charges were done by me and they closed the account. At the time I was more shocked than angry. The card in question had never left my house and I hadn't charged anything to it all year. About the only activity on the card was a balance transfer so I am happy that the company knew that something was wrong.

Having been a credit card user for a decade, this is the first time that this has ever happened to me and I am hoping that it will be the last, but that might be overly optimistic thinking on my part. One friend of mine was a victim of identity theft and she said that took months to undo so I should be grateful that my experience was so minor in comparison.
