looking at plants After work this morning, I made a stop at the Target near my place. My reason for going there was to stock up on toiletries such as some shampoo, conditioner and toothpaste. However, once those items were in my basket that didn't stop from wandering over to the plant aisle. I'm not positive, but I think that every time I set foot in that store, I have to see what kind of new if any plants they have on sale. The selection isn't the best, but they are far more reasonable than what I usually see at a nursery and or plant store. I can't remember when I first started to appreciate plants, but I know that ever since I moved out of my parents place there have always been plants with me in my own place whether it is in the bedroom or the living room. Even in my college dorm room there were plants. Something about having them around me makes the room that much more comfortable. I'm not sure if that has to do with the color or the fact that they are alive. Standing there scanning over the shelves trying to find something that I liked, it dawned on me that it may not be the best time to purchase plants. With the temperatures well below the freezing mark and high winds lowering the temperature even more, it didn't like a good idea to add to my collection. At least that is what I told myself when I walked away to the checkout lines without any plants in hand. ... Mike Carey is slowly bringing his book Lucifer to an end and in the latest chapter he brought back an old favorite, Martin. Without digging through my back issues I can't say when we last saw him in the book, but I would guess that it was over a year ago if not longer. So seeing him on the first page made me happy and I like the fact that Carey is taking the time to put any and all loose ends in order before the story comes to a close. I suspect that once Lucifer ends Vertigo will quietly put the characters aside just as they did when Neil Gaiman walked away from The Sandman. I can't say that I am overly fond of his work on The Avengers, but Brian Michael Bendis has yet to disappoint me on his book Powers. The latest issue was devoted to Christian and I love the changes that are happening in his life. Two mysterious beings offered him the chance to have powers again and he couldn't say no. I have no idea if this is going to change the overall tone of the book from urban crime drama to something of a more traditional super hero feel, but seeing Christian rise above being an ordinary detective seemed like the right thing to do. It suits his personality better. Not only was I impressed with the changes in Christian. I also loved the way that Mike Oeming and Peter Pantazis depicted it. The scene where the beings transported Christian to their world was very reminiscent of what Jodi Foster experienced in the movie Contact. Both Jodi and Christian made their journey through a wormhole of some sort and the visualization of such a mode of travel was amazing. Bright colors bordering on psychedelic make perfect sense to me in that kind of a scenario although I have to say that there were also some hints of Ditko Dr. Strange landscapes mixed in there as well that I thoroughly enjoyed. |
