red eye tears Shortly before sunrise today, I groggily viewed the somewhat controversial Michael Winterbottom film 9 Songs and about the best part for me were the songs. He has disappointed me in the past with some of his other films, so I was happy that at least with this effort of his I liked the soundtrack enough to walk away with a new band of the moment for me. Before I saw the film, I think that I had seen the name Black Rebel Motorcycle Club in passing and never gave it another thought. Now all of that has changed. Their debut effort from a few years back has gone into heavy rotation on my computer. The Dandy Warhols, Elbow, Franz Ferdinand and Primal Scream also appear in the movie, but I wasn't as impressed by them. What makes the movie so edgy is the fact that the two main characters have sex and do little else in the film except go to concerts. Beyond those two elements, there isn't that much else to say about the film. I will admit that the sex is jarring for being in a mainstream film, but I didn't find it offensive. ... Looking back through the journal, I see that this is the one year anniversary of owning a Mac Mini. I have no complaints about the machine and would recommend it to anyone looking to give Apple a try for the first time. |
