corsica to sardina

Thanks to some warm weather, I made some serious progress on Paul Theroux's book The PIllars of Hercules. I am always intrigued by what interests him about a place. For example, I learned a good deal about the history and terrain of Corsica, but all that Paul mentioned about Sardina was that both the word sardonic and sardines share a common heritage with the name of the island. Oh, he also spent some time describing the poor Africans trying to sell trinkets on the island. Overall he did not paint a pretty picture of the place and I found that to be quite sad if not a slight to the other people who live there.
