thirty cents overnight

Last week Wednesday, my two biggest concerns were sunburn and not scratching insect bites. Sadly that is not true this week. Either I am doing something related to selling my place or I am trying to work out an itinerary for Japan. Both tasks are important, but neither of them is as relaxing as floating on a raft in a quiet northern Wisconsin lake for hours.

I am starting to wonder when I am going to have fun again this summer.

Early this morning, I watched a Japanese film called Shinobi that was a live action version of an anime story. Almost every synopsis that I read said that it was a combination of Romeo and Juliet and the X-Men. Now having seen the movie, I agree with that statement. I should have counted the number of times that the lead couple used the phrase star crossed or some variation of it. As for the X-Men element, the two tribes were superior to ordinary humans but feared and hated. That theme would be very familiar to anyone who knows the not so merry Marvel mutants.

I can't say that I was overly impressed with the movie, but it had some nice visuals here and there.

On a more educational note, I saw an episode Nova Science Now, where I learned that sleep might help people learn things because it is connected to memory and that the concept of emergence is not just limited to flocks of birds, but can also be seen in people.
