No More Television

I went back in time today to the age of radio. This was not done by choice though. For some reason unknown to me, my television stopped working late this afternoon. It was on in the other room and I went to change the channel. When I walked into the room, there was sound but no picture coming from the television. I checked all of the cables on the set and nothing seemed wrong, but there wasn't any picture. It was just snow on the screen. The sound is still clear as it could possibly be through the vcr and stereo, but nothing else seems to work. I can't even watch a movie on the vcr.

Part of me always admired those people who said that they didn't own a television. I could never make the complete break from the idiot box. Now I seem to have my chance to be an intellectual snob, who doesn't watch any television.

I think that I'll miss my movies though. Yesterday afternoon I watched Twelve Monkeys again and today I watched part of Clerks.

Now is the time to buy things with the holiday season gearing up. So I'll see how long I last without a television.

There is no way that I would pay to repair the set that I own. Its over a decade old and has turned green on me twice in the past. A person would be watching and they would notice that the screen had a slight green tint to it. Soon over a matter of a week, black and white movies became green and white movies. This little phenomenon happened twice in the last decade.

Yesterday was the first time in a long time that I cooked a complete meal for myself. The microwave meals in the hotel don't really count as cooking. Eating out will be reserved for special occasions once again. Work is no longer paying for my food now that I am home. Well, they are still paying me, but they aren't reimbursing me anymore for my food.

Now that I am cooking again, I also have to do dishes again. Paper plates are an option, but I'm not that lazy.

I have to get used to driving my own car again. The Altima that I drove in Omaha is considered a mid size car. My Sunfire is a two door coupe. There is a definite difference between the two fo them.

Without a doubt, the Altima has more horsepower, but I feel more in control with the Sunfire. The interior of the Sunfire cradles me. The dash wraps around and the steering wheel feels like an extension of my body. Its as close as I get to being in a Japanimation film complete with my own personal assault vehicle that responds to my every command. Or at the very least its fun to drive.

I spent part of the early evening writing checks for three weeks worth of bills. Fun, fun, fun. Plus I still have to tally up what work still owes me.
