No More Snow

I feel like expanding upon my ten minute review of Titanic from last night. I realize that it was supposed to be a romance, but it still bothered me. If I might take the moral high ground for a minute, here we have yet another rich girl who wants the boy from the wrong side of the tracks. This is so cliche, but it still appeals to people. Of course, soap operas have been thriving for years and those are as convoluted as possible.

Nick liked the movie and said that maybe I'm just too jaded. This could be right. I don't know if it was made clear or not, but Tracy was still married when we first started seeing one another. So I can say that I had an affair with a married woman. Its not nearly as much fun as it looked in Titanic. Once again here is where I think that it was aiming toward a fifteen year old girl audience. The heroine of the film goes against her mother's wishes when it comes to men. How shocking.

Another comparison has been made with Romeo and Juliet in terms of romance. I think that those are two of the most annoying characters in Shakespeare. Here's the poison and the knife kids. Do you need any help with killing yourself? I'll be happy to help you.

I can still watch Romeo and Juliet and like it. I just don't focus on the star crossed lovers. For me the priest and Mercutio were far more interesting in the most recent film version of the play.

I don't make a conscience effort not to like most of pop culture, but it happens. Besides Good Will Hunting was much more subtle and had less arch acting than Titanic.

Time was on my side this morning when I went to work, because the snow hadn't started to come down yet. By the time that I got home somewhere between seven and ten inches had fell. It took a long time to shovel that much snow.

The reason this entry is so late is because I spent the night at Brenda's place.

Time to go to work.
