Orkney Islands

The weather is cooling down just in time for the holiday weekend, but this really doesn't bother me. No real holiday plans were made, because Brenda works Saturday and she might be working Monday as well.

I spent part of the day reading my latest issues of National Geographic and The New Yorker. Other than my reading it was just another day at work.

According to the article, the Orkney Islands are an archipelago of some seventy islands north of Scotland. Before this afternoon, I had never heard of them. Now I want to go there, because they sound amazing. The isolation found there is almost unreal. One four square mile island has a population of sixty five people.

All of this is really beyond my understanding, but part of me thinks that I might like it. To be removed from everything, yet have everything that I might need. Then again this is just the silly romantic in me that thinks that life would be great on an island. I guess that I would have to overlook the lack of some modern conveniences and the possiblity of not having a job. I guess that its hard to make a living in paradise.

I found some stuff about The Stranger on the web, but I'll wait until I have finished the book before I launch into the criticism.
