Michelangelo sibyl from the Sistine Chapel

slow news day

The paper had said that Eyes Wide Shut had a running time of a hundred minutes, so I was a little surprised to see that close to three hours had passed when I got back to my car. On the other hand, I guess that this was to be expected. Kubrick is known for long drawn out sequences. 2001: A Space Odyssey would be a prime example. Many people wonder what the hell is up with the monkey people in the beginning. Then there is the long drawn out drug sequence where Dave enters the monolith.

Of course Kubrick is not for everyone which is becoming more and more obvious by the nasty reviews of the film that I have read, but I still liked it which is all that matters to me. Besides the worst review that I read came from someone who was completely orgasmic over The Blair Witch Project which strikes me as being silly. I guess most people don't realize that the students are actors. Then again I don't understand the fascination with the X-Files.

Last night I hydroplaned into the parking lot at work. Something about the dips in the driveway creates a river every time that it rains. Other than that initial excitement, most of the evening was uneventful. I have a new project to keep me busy, which keeps my complaining to a minimum.

Sigh. I almost always have a knee jerk reaction to news stories about the Kennedy clan. These people seem to be revered by anyone old enough to remember the death of JFK and I often wonder why. They made just as many mistakes as other political families, but some people tend to gloss over them.

I admire Kennedy for starting the space program, but he also had a strong part in sending troops to Vietnam. He was not god. He was not a king. Let it go people.

Maybe I am a wrong, but I don't really care about the fate of John Jr. and quickly turned the television off when I saw that that was all that they had on in the morning. Personally I think it must have been a slow news day.
