07/11/2000 Big, Big News Remember a while back when I said New Orleans needed a good online journal-type person? Well, they fixin' to get one. Yup, the Wife and I are moving south. Yikes! So here's the story: My boss, who brought me in to my latest job back at the beginning of the year, quit last week. This did not bode well for my coworkers and I. Luckily, I'd e-mailed a resume to a company in New Orleans a few weeks ago. I did a couple of phone interviews with them and they made me an offer today. I accepted. How 'bout that shit? Yeah, me and the coworkers are like rats from a sinking ship. The Titanic references have been flying fast and furious in the web development department. It must have been meant to be, right? My job suddenly goes sour and another job (complete with 20% raise and relocation money) lands in my lap. A job in the city Sonya and I have talked about moving to - on and off - since before we graduated from college, no less. The Lord, I tell you, is watching out for Sonya and me. The family took the news well - sad to see us go, of course, but happy for our happiness. I was very pleased. Friends and other family? You'll be getting a personal e-mail in the next day or so. I want everyone to be fully informed. Watch for it! Am I nervous? Hell, I'm terrified. I've never made a move like this before - hundreds of miles away from home, no friends or relatives in the neighborhood to speak of. And they want me there by the end of the month, so I'm gonna have to hustle on the apartment-finding thing. We're probably going to run down there this weekend to have a look around. I'm also amazingly excited. This is a motherfuckin' dream come true. Do you people understand this? New Orleans, man! I'm gonna live there! Jesus! Wow! A-fuckin'-mazing! Therefore, updates may be spotty over the next few weeks - at least until we're firmly settled in the new place, wherever that may be. Stay tuned, kids, this may be very exciting. |
