Effluvia Happy birthday David Bowie. And happy birthday to The King. No doubt Memphis is full of Germans with exagerated sideburns tonight!
I was on the phone ordering dinner earlier. "Poop," Sonya said, "poop poop poop." "Poop poop," I replied, " what a funny word!" "It is funny," she agreed, "poop poop poop!" Earthmovers and Sandcastles - The splash page is fun, anyway. Siobhan scans in entries. |
01/08/2001 Movies So yeah, the Saints lost Saturday. But you can't complain - they had a great season. Hell, the greatest season in franchise history. It was a pleasure to live in this city and do my own little part during their playoff run. Saints fans can actually say "wait 'til next year" and have it mean something. Saturday night Sonya and I went down on Decatur. Dinner at Silky's (decent barbecue, but Silky knows he can do better) and I spent a Christmas gift certificate at Bookstar: Dennis Cooper, Marquis de Sade and Tom Clancy. I don't know what to think of that combination. Yesterday I went to Tastee Donuts to get some lunch. While it is nominally a donut shop, they also serve breakfast, a wide variety of po' boys and kastle burgers - little square burgers of the White Castle/Krystal variety. Hence the clever name, I suppose. They were tasty, true, but they gave me the most horrendous gas! I puttered and tooted around the apartment like a defective rocket all evening. Sonya watched DVDs, I poked around on the internet. A Sunday was effectively disposed of. The computers didn't work today at work. This is funny, when you do a mainly computer-ish job. I didn't mind. I went to Wal Mart and did some shopping. Recent Celebrity Sightings I took Roxy for a walk Saturday afternoon while it was warm and sunny. We went down to First Street where one of the houses was draped and shaded and surrounded by trucks and racks of wardrobe. Standing out front was David Arquette, wearing an orange jumpsuit and a cowboy hat. He was happily talking to some gawkers and patiently having his picture taken. And then this evening I went to Joey K's to get some dinner and I saw Archie Manning and his wife, both of them eating salads. Neat.
My buddy Dave took the first two paragraphs of my last entry and came up with this. I give you the Crash Into June Prison Sex Remix of wonderland 2: "I needed my salad tossed, so I went to this combination salad tosser/reacharound joint the other day to get it done. To be sure, my ass was filthy. But I didn't feel like spending the time or money on an automatic salad tosser. "Turns out, though, that if you get a tossed salad, the
reacharound is free! I think that's a fine way to do
things."
My Favorite Movies - 2000 Everyone's been talking about what a horrid year it was for movies, and I suppose they're right. Thing is, I didn't go to the movies very much this year. I didn't see many more than the ones listed below, but I really liked these: High Fidelity - As James says, the secrets of guy-ness are all contained in this movie. Cusack, as always, is a treat to watch. American Psycho - Christian Bale is Patrick Bateman: Rich. Cut. bloodthirsty. The blackest of black comedies. The Virgin Suicides - Did it haunt you? It haunted me. All the time I'm thinking, "please, girls, just run away," but they never do. Great music, too. Hamlet - It's a very trim Hamlet, especially if you've ever seen Branagh's version. But Ethan Hawke was born to brood, and New York makes a damned fine Denmark. Cecil B. Demented - Inspired craziness from someone who knows the genre. The scene in the porn theater is priceless. Shadow of the Vampire - Please hand Mr. Dafoe the Oscar. He earned it. Bonus: Eddie Izzard is in it. The Exorcist - Not as scary as I remembered it from junior high, but very high quality. All the actors - especially Linda Blair - are at the top of their respective games. Quills - Woohoo! Kate Winslet! Bonus: Priest fucks corpse during dream sequence. not to be missed. Harold Reads 100 Years of Solitude The Aurelianos and Arcadios get married, fuck and die. The world ends. Who knows? Who cares? |
