perchance to dream I did not sleep well at all today. In fact I probably felt better before I went to sleep than after I woke up early this afternoon. Then there was the strange nightmare that I had about work that really threw me off. Basically what happened in the dream was that something went very wrong and while I was trying to fix the problem everyone else had a picnic and watched. I suppose that doesn't sound too horrible, but it was enough to bother me. I'm not sure what made my sleep so miserable and caused the odd dream. Maybe it was the thunder that kept rumbling through the house in the morning. ... The New Yorker had a great about article about Cindy Sherman and her work in photography, which was something completely new to me. Quite honestly the world of photography is not very well known to me, so I was surprised that I actually finished the whole article. I doubt that I am alone in my ignorance when it comes to photography, because as the article pointed out photography more often than not is generally viewed as a lesser form of art behind painting and sculpture and this was certainly true when I was in college. I would be hard pressed to name five famous photographers even though I can name dozens of famous painters. The field of photography does not figure heavily in art history classes, but maybe that will change in the coming century.
