Michelangelo sibyl from the Sistine Chapel

Stand back and think. I need to do that more often or at the very least I think that I need a vacation sometime in the near future. Thankfully that is exactly what I will be doing this weekend. For the first time since I got back from Europe, I am going to have three days off in a row and I plan on spending them in the northern half of the state far from any worries.

Once I get there all that I want to do is relax and maybe read a little. I might even take some time to take in the fall colors on my bicycle, which I have been neglecting for most of the year.

My other goal is to show my grandma the photos that I took while I was in Europe. She and my grandpa had been there over a decade ago and I want to show her much Berlin has changed since then. Beyond those minor objectives I want to be as free as possible.

In the early morning hours of the day, there was a brief segment on television discussing the pros and cons of having a third shift job. Naturally this caught my attention and I moved a little closer to the screen. Not that they could see me better or anything along those lines.

Most of what was said was common knowledge as far as I was concerned. Yes, many people still view it as a dead end job or a stepping stone at best. Yes, our use of technology is making the world of twenty-four by seven more and more frequent in the world of business. Someone has to be there to answer a question in the middle of the night or fix a problem before the day crew rolls into the building. All of this was known to me and at the moment I still have to say that it is still the life for me.

Maybe in a year my opinion will change. I have been known to change my mind now and then on certain topics.

I managed to finish reading The Turn of the Screw, by the ever wordy Henry James, hours before I had to go to class. Last week I had been reading up until I got in the car to drive to class. Today it was different and I have to say that it was nice having that extra time to breathe and let the text sink into my brain for a few moments.

If I had to sum up the story in one line, it would be that Flora and Miles are not charming children. Well, actually there is more to the story, but that is the general idea. Of course in class we have to probe slightly deeper into the text for at least an hour and a half.

As if it were just intended for me, the sun returned in time for my Tuesday walk to class. Despite its warming rays most of the women that I saw on campus were bundled up in sweaters and it made me happy. Some men prefer to see women on a beach wearing next to nothing. I, however, like the allure of a woman in a cable knit sweater.

Years ago when I was with Tracy she would wear my sweaters and I loved her that much more because she did. It wasn't something that I suggested or hinted at her to do. Once she started to wear them it seemed so natural to me and they looked so much better on her than they did on me.

I read an online review of the new Radiohead cd called "kid a" that described it a "stoner headphone album" and by hearing that description I knew that I had to have it. Even though I haven't gotten high since I got back from Amsterdam, I am definitely in the mood for that kind of sound.
