what to bring

In the final hours before I left work I finished writing my last paper of the semester. Now I am free to read and write whatever I want for the next few months. The spring semester may not have been as interesting as the fall one, but I don't regret taking it.

...

Ann was a feeling a little down this morning, so I made a quick trip to the mall after I left work and then returned bearing gifts. To make her Mother's Day a little brighter, I got her a hot sticky caramel nut covered cinnamon bun and some Dexter's Laboratory figures to keep her busy for the day. She does a great impression of both Dexter and DeeDee, so I knew that she would appreciate them.

...

For the first time in days, I was able to get a healthy amount of sleep. No one in my neighborhod was working on their roof or cutting down trees like they were last week. It was so nice. Then waking up in time to see the X-Files was even better.

...

After I woke up this evening I stopped by my parents once again, because I needed to pick up the backpack that I used when I went to Europe last summer. Yes, I am going to be using a backpack even though I am going to be staying in hotels. If I was able to get by for three weeks with the backpack, then two weeks shouldn't be a problem. My sister on the other hand is bringing at least two suitcases. Shoes it seems are very important when you travel. As for me I'll be bringing one pair, my Timberland boots. They served me well in Europe so they should do just fine in the land down under. Let's review what I might need shoes for while I am there:

At the club or pub: Timberland boots

Walking around the town: Timberland boots

At the beach: Timberland boots (Um, no. I'll probably take them off there.)

It seems that my sister is getting nervous about the trip. I, on the other hand, am just excited. The way that I see it, we won't be crossing into a new country every other day with its own brand of currency and wherever we go they'll speak English or at least a very stylized version of it. Hell, if I could navigate through the three and a half million population of Berlin where they didn't speak English, I think that I can handle the four million people in Sydney.
