beyond bondi beach This morning the plan was to use the other bus included in our pass to get outside of the center of Sydney. Primarily we wanted to get to the beach. Finding the bus stop this morning wasn't a problem and we were on our way that much more quickly. For the most part we were heading east of the city. Eventually we made it to Bondi Beach. Now maybe Hawaii has ruined me, but most beaches look the same. Yes, the color of the water was the famous Bondi blue that gave Steve Jobs his inspiration for the iMac, but I wasn't that impressed. Since this is essentially October here in terms of the seasons, the beach itself was fairly empty. There were about two dozen or so people scattered on the beach along with a dozen or so would be surfers in the water. Despite or maybe due to the lack of activity, we could just sit on the beach and relax. Maybe it's because I grew up in the Midwest, but the whole beach scene has no real appeal for me. But what about all of the women in swimsuits you cry? Well for me I think that a woman looks just as good if not better in a sweater or as they say here a jumper. I can't imagine myself ever being a beach bum. Maybe if this beach were more secluded and there was wasn't a street lined with tourist shops right next to it, then it would be more appealing. Oh, there is a certain pleasure to feeling the sand between your toes, but it wouldn't have to be a daily event for me. My other big objection to the beach is all of the garbage lying half buried in the sand. I never know what I may or may not be sitting on when I sit down. Eventually we made our way west back into the city with our next destination being the AMP Tower. As cliche as it might be, I wanted to see the city from above and going up in the tower gave me the chance. I have to confess that I truly do like the city of Sydney and being able to see it from above makes it shine that much better. First of all it strikes me as being a very clean city. Then there are the parks and architecture. Overall it's very pleasing visually. With the sun starting to set our next destination was the casino. This was done for Hope, not for me. Once again this is going to make me sound like a prude, but I see gambling as a huge waste of time. There are so many other things that I can do in life than hand my money over to strangers and or machines. Personally I think that the machines are even sadder. Especially with row upon row of old people sitting in front of them looking like rats trying to get something to eat. They keep hoping for something that they will more than likely never get. Not only does the concept of gambling bother me, but so does the decor of a casino.
