telling vacation stories Naturally during my first night back at work, my mind was on anything but my job. All that I wanted to do was talk about Australia to my coworkers and that is exactly what I did. Being there is still very much on my mind and I want to tell as many people as possible about what impressed me while I was there. Not only was I able to talk about what I saw and did, but I also had my photos ready to show them. Sadly not all of them had turned out with most of the night and underwater photos being the biggest disappointments of the lot. At best they looked like experiments in abstraction using odd lighting effects. I had to try though and I had plenty of film with me. On the other hand I managed to get about the same amount of good photos as I did when I went to Europe last year even though I was only gone for two weeks instead of three. So I guess that I must have done something right with my camera. ... The other day I had been talking about how the everyday world had yet to catch up with me. Well, yesterday one thing managed to get through my post vacation high. I think that I mentioned a while ago that my refrigerator was making some strange noises. Those noises have now become even louder. So loud in fact that my downstairs neighbor could hear them in her half of the house. After being checked by an expert yesterday it was learned that the compressor is failing and would cost too much to replace. What this means is that I'll have a brand new refrigerator sometime this coming Thursday. ... When I woke this afternoon I discovered that my refrigerator had finally died. I had a feeling that it was ready to go, so I wasn't that surprised. According to the landlord the new refrigerator should be here sometime early Friday morning. Until then all of my perishable food is being kept in to two electric coolers sitting on the floor of my dining room. It almost feels as though I were camping at home.
