reinventing the self

Yes, I know that the three word heading sounds like a bad new age book title or zen pun, but The New Yorker (the best magazine in the world) had a great article about a man who created a whole new identity for himself. As a twenty-nine year old drifter, he recreated himself as an eighteen year old long distance runner and got accepted to Princeton. All that I could say after reading the story was yes, he beat the system.

He was truly Jay Gatsby. Or maybe he was really a living version of James Gatz. The New Yorker compared him to Huck Finn. I think that all three apply.

I love reading The Great Gatsby. I always have and I always will. Daisy sounded like money. Jordan and her floated on the couch. Nick watched it all.
