barcelona versus madrid

Late this afternoon I found myself in a war. My opponents were the local birds and the area of contention was my deck. It seems that they are determined to build a nest on top of my air conditioner and my grilling near there interferes with their plans. Even though the smoke started to fill my house, I think that I may have won the battle, since they weren't around by the time that I was done. On the other hand I wouldn't be surprised to see the start of a new nest there tomorrow. I doubt that they will give up that easily since I have the feeling that they have done this in the past. To put it another way my cooking like Fred Flintstone won't stop their urge to breed. I could be wrong though.

Oh, war is probably an exaggeration since none of the birds were dive bombing me Hitchcock style and for that I am grateful.

In pop culture news, it seems that Aquaman will be making a triumphant return to the DC universe later this year. This doesn't come as a shock to me nor do I care that much. Arthur is okay as a character, but in a collection of three thousand plus books I own one, yes I said one, Aquaman book. Something about the whole merman concept never held any interest for me. For me the book had a core concept of him being a hybrid with a human father and a mermaid or something for a mother and he needed to be near water or he would start to die. Everything else in the book was filler material. Oh, Mera looked good in her quasi lace swimsuit and crown, but everything else in the book was boring to me.

As a founding member of the Justice League, Arthur was acceptable, but his solo book held little appeal to me. Peter David and Erik Larsen tried to breathe some life into him by severing his hand and replacing it with a hook, but even that couldn't save him from cancellation. At least I think that they were the people responsible for his disfigurement. I don't know for certain since I didn't read the book. To be fair I might glance at the book when it debuts later this year and see what kind of new direction they have for him. They gave the book to Rick Veitch and he did some great stuff on Swamp Thing years ago.

Ann sent me an email today. It was the first time that I had heard from her in weeks if not months. She seems to be doing well both on the professional and personal front.
