not sunburnt yet For the second day in a row the pool was my home for most of the afternoon. Once again I spent three relaxing hours just floating and looking up at the cloudless sky. There were two slight differences this time around though. First of all, I went just after the peak tanning hours of the day. I needed to do some things at my place, before I let myself fall back into summer why should I worry about life mode. Plus I wanted to avoid burning too quickly. I did well enough the first day, but I didn't want to push my skin that hard. The second difference is that I managed to read a book as I floated here and there across the pool. Not once did I have to worry about dropping the book and I was proud of myself. Yes, I have many hidden talents. The book of choice was a Rick Steves guide to Europe. Now on the one hand I can appreciate his knowledge of Europe, but hearing him describe some of the places that I have seen makes me shake my head. We do not see things the same way. Quite often he says that he tries to make Europe more personal with his books, but sometimes his tone takes an almost superior tone and that bothers me. For me he almost makes it more of a chore than a vacation which I think is the opposite of what he intends to do. Plus his hand drawn maps are so annoying. I've come to the conclusion that his version of Germany does not match mine. If I'd listened to what he said about the country I would never have gone to see it. He was slightly better with Prague and I didn't spend enough time in Vienna to know whether or not I disagreed with him. ... My parents had lent me a copy of A Beautiful Mind and I watched it before I went back to their place and the pool. It was about what I had expected to see. Ron Howard has a certain feel to his films and he doesn't stray that far from his formula. That doesn't mean I didn't like it, but at the same time I wondered what someone else could have done with the same story.
