week three ends

For over a week now I've been on the run. Between work and school, plus two plays this past weekend, there has been very little down time in my life. Now at five in the afternoon, I can finally relax. Of course I should be sleeping so that I won't fall asleep at work later tonight, but I can't have everything.

Class went well this afternoon and I am slowly starting to enjoy it more than I did in the beginning. I guess I've come to learn that I do have things in common with the rest of the people there besides the class itself. That feeling of detachment that I had a week or so ago has faded and I don't think that it is going to come back either.

...

Rain was coming down as I drove back home and I thought that it would put me to sleep as soon I got into the house. I was wrong. After eating I was wide awake and ended up watching a documentary on the colonial version of what we now call New York city. Later on the program moved outside of New York and on to the other colonies.

By the time that I turned the television off, I had learned some new names and facts that I am sure wouldn't interest anyone else. One of those odd details would be the name of a German settler who became a liaison between the German settlers in what we now call Pennsylvania and the various Native American tribes that lived there at that time.

Obviously it wasn't just the British and French who came to North America, but I doubt that I could name any early German colonial settler. Somehow that must have been glossed over in the history classes that I took years ago. Plus I still have a hard time trying to imagine German being spoken to Native Americans and I don't know why.
