With the semester half over and only two months left in the year, I am more than ready for another vacation. Now when I say vacation I mean more than just a few days away from work, I want to go somewhere. I want to escape from the everyday world that is starting to get to me again.

Although I may no longer be going anywhere in December that doesn't mean that I can't start thinking about next year. Since any studying that I had to do this week after exams was minimal, I got to do some serious research on New Zealand. In my mind going back to that part of the world is in keeping with my pattern. I did Europe in 2000, Australia in 2001 and then Europe again in 2002, so it makes sense to do New Zealand in 2003.

...

Last night when I went to work there were leaves on the tree in my front yard. When I returned this morning, all of them were on the ground. A combination of the below freezing temperature and steady wind must have been too much for them. With that one subtle change it is beginning to look more and more like winter.

The shorter day and earlier sunset didn't bother me as much as the bare trees. Snow can't be far behind and has already fallen in parts of the state north of Milwaukee.
