Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner kept me awake longer than I had planned this morning. The film version of the Snows of Kilimanjaro was being shown on the local public television station and I had to watch for just a little while before I fell asleep. Personally I think that it was time well spent,

It's been years since I last read any Hemingway, but I recognized his style even in movie form. All of the expected motifs of drinking, hunting and terse emotion were there. Naturally Hemingway loathed the film, but I think that Peck did a decent job of being the prototypical man Hemingway used over and over again in his stories and books.

...

Hemingway isn't the only favorite writer of mine that has come back into my life, Kerouac has also made a return. Listening to Visions of Cody on cassette is a great way to drive to and from work. For me Kerouac sounds even better when it is read aloud. The choppy beat of his prose is more rambling speech than anything else so hearing someone speak it is a definite improvement than reading it quietly.

One thing does bother me about the audio version and that would be the odd accent that the actor uses when he talks. At times it almost sounds Cockney and I'm not sure why either.
