what comes next

After having been wrapped mere hours before they needed to be, all of the gifts have been opened. Tape and colored paper was torn, crumpled and thrown away. A ritual understood and loved by many. Thankfully everyone seemed happy with what they had been given.

The food has been put away after there were second and third helpings. Once the meal was finished, some of the fixings had been given to me to take home since my parents left for Florida today. No food was to be left behind in their absence. Chocolate pie had been missing from the holiday table, but there is always next year.

The relatives have gone home and probably won't be seen until next year. Stories and jokes had been told and I can't think of any squabbles.

Yes, I have to say that for me the holiday is over and it all goes by so fast. Now I need to do some cleaning, because my house has been neglected for weeks.

...

I did get some cleaning done, but I lost my momentum early in the afternoon and took a nap instead of finishing what I started. It just didn't seem right cleaning on my day off. Going out today wasn't an option either since I loathe crowds and I know that I wasn't the only one off from work today.

I guess that the best part of the day was when I walked to the grocery store tonight. We didn't get any of the snow that buried the northeast part of the country and the temperature has been less than chilly so walking wasn't a problem.

Nothing exciting happened on the walk, but I like being able to do something that simple at night. If I lived in a large city there might be some cause for concern, but where I live there is nothing to fear. Walking gave me time to think and it felt good to be out of the house for just a little while.
