the year ends

Since for me Monday night is really Friday night, I was completely relaxed at work. I didn't have a single care or worry and just waited until I could go home. Oh, I didn't slack to the point where I didn't do any work at all, but I didn't over exert myself either. Instead of working most of the night was spent talking with Nicole and for me that is always a good time.

From what she told me things have not been going well between her fiance and her. Sadly this was demonstrated during the night by an argument over the phone by them. Obviously I couldn't hear what he was saying but I got the general idea by what she said to him before she slammed the phone down.

It seems that he thinks that she is seeing someone else or at the very least spending too much time talking with another male coworker. That coworker is not me. In the past she has said that she will stay with her fiance for the sake of their son, but I will admit that she does seem to act differently around said coworker. As to whether or not anything else will happen remains to be seen.

Thankfully her mood was better before I left for home and I was able to give her hug as I wished her a happy new year. I wish that I could make her happy on a closer basis, but from what I can tell I don't factor into that equation except for the times that we talk. Even though she said it wasn't my job, I am still going to get her a birthday present next month. If I had know that her fiance wasn't going to get her anything for Christmas, I would have gotten her a Christmas present as well. That was where her comment about it not being my job came into the picture.

...

Somewhere in the course of the night I finished reading Ubik by Philip K. Dick and now that I'm done I have to say that I enjoyed it. The descriptions of the clothing that the characters wore was annoying, but the cryogenics part of the story was interesting and I could see where elements of that were mirrored in the movie Vanilla Sky.
