relax float downstream

When I peeked through the blinds this morning, I saw snow in the air. Before I got that glimpse of the outside world I had been wondering why it still seemed so dark and then I knew why. Forty percent chance is what they had said in the weather forecast, so seeing the white stuff surprised me a little, but I didn't mind. Overall this has been a very dreary winter and some picturesque dusting would certainly improve things if only for a little while.

Sadly the snow had stopped by nine this morning. A light dusting is all that we got instead of a true winter wonderland. I suspect that it will be gone by tomorrow and no plows will be required.

The play last night was something different and for a while it got me thinking. It isn't every day that I hear people talking about Uranium 235 and chain reactions. Plus these were the people that shaped the world that we know today. They were the first ones to struggle with the idea of mass destruction something that we only think about in passing today.

Sixty years ago the world was a very different place and there are times when I amazed that Europe is still in one piece. Of course today we have America the all knowing to make sure that everything goes according to plan. To paraphrase a friend at work, America did what Britain wished they could have done. Uncle Sam rules through subversive means rather than overt ones. Instead of having colonial outposts with viceroys the American government overthrows a government here and creates a puppet one somewhere else.

This was a very good week for me and I am glad that took the time off. It didn't matter that I wasn't in New Zealand yet. Just having time away from work was enough to make me happy. I also got quite a few things accomplished.

My place looks the best that it has in months and I'll continue to redecorate until I leave the country in March. Ever so slowly I am creating a place that reflects me instead of just a place to sleep and store my stuff. Besides I have a feeling that I am going to be spending more time at home without school this semester to force me out of the house on an almost daily basis.

Another highlight of the week was being able to read my two favorite magazines again. For months I had been neglecting my issues of both The New Yorker and National Geographic. Now I have the time to absorb them fully and realize what I was missing. They also might be enough to replace what I got from school in terms of intellectual stimulation.
