grinding those keys

So at noon today I saw Tron Reloaded. Okay, I really saw Matrix Reloaded, but I think that it sounds funnier when I compare it to the old movie Tron which is very similar in my opinion. Both movies take place within a computer environment where people can get killed and they move at super human speeds. Obviously Tron isn't considered as hip as the Matrix, but I still think that the both of them have a good deal in common.

Reloaded was okay, but for me it was heavy on effects and low on story, which is too be expected. I still believe that this movie was only made because the first did so well. What I mean is that the story itself feels like back fill to me. When I saw the first one, it felt as though that there were only a handful of humans that were not part of the Matrix. There were Morpheus and friends with the rest of the humans at Zion. Now in Reloaded we suddenly have Stomp doing a performance at the Ewok village. I found that scene to be very silly.

It was interesting to see that Neo flies like Superman and jumps like the Hulk, which leads me into what I would love to see in the upcoming Hulk film but probably won't. I want to see the Hulk leaping through the air with Rick Jones' arms wrapped around the Hulk's neck so that he doesn't fall off. Of course this would have to include the character of Rick, which isn't going to happen since they seem to be going with the Ross, Betty and Hulk triangle to create dramatic tension instead of just mindless action for the entire movie. The concept that Rick caused Banner to become the Hulk will be brushed aside and forgotten.

Getting back to Reloaded, I was happy that I saw it, but it wasn't the end all of science fiction for me. Bladerunner still holds that position for me. I guess the whole long coat and sunglasses look isn't enough for me. I want to care about the characters and be moved by what they do. Maybe I am asking for too much from an action movie.
