loving red kryptonite

With the season premiere of the third season, they've moved even further away from the books than they have already in the first two seasons. I guess that this was to be expected, but at the same time it does have me a little worried. If they completely ignore the charm of the books, they need to create something just as interesting to take its place. In my mind that is not an easy thing to do.

For sixty years the books have been reworking the story of an orphaned alien with varying degrees of success, but they usually stay true to the core of who Kal-El should be as a person. I'll fully admit that seeing an evil Clark is interesting, but at the same time I wonder how long it can last. I mean this is the person who will eventually become Superman so it can't stay this way forever. Then again the show may only have two to three years worth of life in it so they may have to be experimental as possible and not worry about the end result of the myth.

As of tonight, Jonathan Kent has decided to make a deal with the being from Krypton and now has powers of some kind. The writers of the show are leading us to believe that this person is Jor-El, but others have speculated that it may really be General Zod and that makes more sense to me. Part of me can see why Jonathan did what he did, but it changes the dynamics of the father son relationship and trying to mirror the Luthors may not be the best for the show's future. As to how long Jonathan will be this way is beyond me, but I'll keep watching.
