they captured saddam I almost saw the entire movie Rashomon before I went to work last night except for one thing. Something was wrong with the DVD. With less than half an hour left, the DVD choked at the end of chapter eight and when my machine recovered, it had advanced the film to chapter eleven. So I stopped the disc and went back to chapter nine. Once again my machine paused and jumped to chapter eleven. Then I took the disc out and cleaned it. Looking at the back did not make me hopeful. The surface was covered with scratches. When I saw them, I was amazed that it played as much as it did. Cleaning didn't make a difference. Chapters nine and ten still didn't work when I put the disc back into the machine. Apparently I wasn't supposed to see them even though I could watch the rest of the movie and the special features. Sigh. ... My sister called this afternoon asking if I had heard the news about Iraq. Half asleep I said that I had hours ago when I was still at work. Obviously she was happy, but this doesn't mean that she won't be going there. That part of the plan hasn't changed. From New York, where she is now, she'll go to Kuwait for a month and then on to Iraq for an indefinite length of time. However, before those changes take place, she'll be able to come home for Christmas, which was the other reason that she had called. ... Yesterday in the world of movies it was twelfth century Japan and today it was Vietnam in the 1950's. Rashomon gave way to Indochine. |
