soldier coming home My parents had picked up my sister Hope from the airport on Saturday, but I didn't get to see her until this morning after work. When I got to my parents place, the only people home were my mom and my sister. That gave me plenty of time to catch up with my sister on more of a one on one basis. Later this week there is going to be a welcome home party of sorts with most of my father's side of the family in attendance and there won't be much chance for that kind of interaction. Thankfully her being in Iraq since January doesn't seem to have had that negative of an effect on her. About the only difference that I could physically see was that she put on some weight, but she had already mentioned that to me before she came home. A little weight gain is far better than any of the other things that could have happened to her while she was there. I couldn't imagine being sent to a war at the age of twenty four, but she seems to be doing fine. ... Red and yellow on the radar screen looked just as impressive in person. Standing at my patio window, I watched the rain come cascading down to the street. From my perspective it was the definition of a summer thunderstorm and I really enjoyed seeing it. |
