Work was very quiet last night and I'm not complaining. On the eve of a holiday weekend, I am predicting that tonight will also be quiet. Hurricane Frances may be causing problems for Florida, but nothing unusual is happening here in Wisconsin. What is even better is that after tonight, instead of my usual three day weekend, I get to start a five day weekend. Five glorious days away from the company is an ideal way for me to get September going and leave summer behind.

I was right about there being a downside to living in Fuling, China. According to Peter Hessler, coal is a major source of fuel there and as a result the air is less than perfect. Besides the air pollution, car horns make the two hundred thousand population city seem much larger in terms of hustle and bustle. So the city may not have the fast capitalistic pace of the West, but it does have modern air and noise pollution.
