there were debates Years ago I read an interview with writer Mikal Gilmore in Rolling Stone magazine and remember thinking that his childhood was so incredibly sad. His brother was the first man to be executed in the state of Utah after a ban on the death penalty had been lifted. To say the least it was not a happy story and I never imagined that someone would make a film about it, but someone has and that was one of the first things that I saw this evening. Having seen the film A Shot to the Heart, I still don't quite understand what drove Gary Gilmore to do the things that he did in his life, but that might be a good thing. ... Without trying to make any kind of political statement, I watched Michael Moore's film The Big One instead of the presidential debate. His movie about the downsizing of America and its impact on the average blue collar worker in America was entertaining if not overly informative and I guess that that is how I feel about the man and his work in general. I'm not a real supporter of Moore, but at the same time I don't feel the need to discredit him as much as the conservative right seems obliged to do. Obviously the man has a certain agenda, but that doesn't make him the worst man on the planet. |
