One of the first things that I saw on television this morning was the announcement that the new Amazing Race would start in November. As soon as the last one had ended I knew that a new race had already been completed. In fact I even found online some information on the various teams that would be in the next installment. What was missing was a start date. Now I have it and I can live vicariously through others who get to travel the world while I hold down a steady job.

Yes, I am jealous of them even though it is a reality television show. I keep telling myself that they never get a real taste of where they visit, because they are moving too fast to win the race. That small amount of reasoning makes it easier to watch people getting a free ride to St. Petersburg and New Zealand.

Despite my waning interest, I gave Smallville another chance tonight and it didn't bother me as much as I thought it might. Nothing moved the plot forward except for another appearance by Margot Kidder, but thankfully the teen drama was kept to a minimum.

There were some high cirrus clouds, but not enough to rob my view of the total lunar eclipse. During the three hour window, I went outside a total of three times to get a different view of the event. One might even say that I saw the before, during and after shots.

This has become an annual event for me in October and it never gets old. Plus it always makes me wonder what people a century ago thought of an eclipse. Obviously the scientific explanation was there, but light pollution wasn't a problem. It had to be far more dramatic than today. What I mean is while I was standing in an empty field, cars were busy driving by as though nothing unusual was happening. For most people it was just an average Wednesday night and that makes me a little sad.
