our first snow My weekend had a very odd start to it. Late this morning I had a dentist appointment and going there is still a new experience for me. Last year my company decided to change our dental policy and that meant that I had to choose a new dentist. Before that change had been made I had no intention of changing dentists. The one that I had was fine with me. So now that the change has been made this was only my second visit to this new dentist. If I had to guess, I would say that the two of us are roughly the same age, which was bound to happen at some time in my life, but does still seem a little strange to me. Growing up I had a dentist who worked on my parents teeth when they were children so having someone who I could consider a peer takes some adjustment on my part. That isn't to say that I don't trust his ability. In fact I almost find it easier to talk with him than I did someone who was older than my parents. ... I was a little disappointed that they didn't show more of Stockholm than they did on tonight's episode of The Amazing Race. When I was there, I thought that it was a very elegant place and that didn't come through in what they showed. Some people even describe the city as a Venice of the north and I agree. Despite the limited exposure I recognized quite a few landmarks that were in the episode. Once again the team that got eliminated had nothing to do with how well they did the task. It was a matter of luck with the hay bales. What I mean is that the father and daughter team got lost at one point in the race and managed to finish third. The old couple is still there and I keep wondering how long that will last. ... Today is the start of a ten day vacation and I am going to enjoy it as much as humanly possible. Work hasn't been much of a bother lately, but that doesn't mean that I don't need some time away. Besides I refuse to work on my birthday. I have yet to have a job where I thought that it was okay to be there on that day and I suspect that it will never happen. Why should a person have to work on his or her birthday? |
