. The article backs up my belief that most over the counter drugs don't cure anything, they just mask the symptoms. This may in fact not be good, because then the body doesn't do its job in fighting the virus. Plus drug induced sleep is never very good for me.
One thing that the entry doesn't address is my lack of appetite. For the past few days, my diet consisted of Jell-O, ice cream and water. Anything more complicated than those three items was far beyond my ability to consume. Chewing was not something that I wanted to do and food in general had no appeal to me. I also had a fear of having a coughing fit with a mouth full of food.
Thankfully all of this started to subside early this evening. There was no more fever and one of my death rattle coughs had expelled something from my body. Once those things had happened, I had some genuine hunger and was able to eat part of a hot dog. Yes, that may not have been the healthiest choice, but I'm not going to eat something elaborate when I can't properly taste anything else. Plus there was the chance that said food might may a return journey up. Mercifully that didn't happen and I knew that I was on the road to recovery.
Part of me wonders whether I had a version of the flu and not just a severe cold.

A slight headache hampered my enjoyment of new episodes of Lost and Alias, but I did my best to watch them through half closed eyes. Alias set up the new conflict for the season and it had to be between Sydney and her new half sister. Dysfunctional families must be the norm in the espionage field. Since the Rotunda was destroyed last season, they also had to debut a new headquarters along with a new power structure. All of these things made sense to me and I'll be along for yet another season.

Maybe I don't want to be completely free of all things Marvel, because last week I picked up the first Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting issue of Captain America and liked what I read. For being what by my count is probably the fifth volume and or incarnation of the book, I have to say they have gotten off to a good start. His taking down some terrorists didn't really appeal to me, but seeing Sharon Carter back made me smile. Other familiar elements were the Red Skull and the Cosmic Cube. These people and things were all part of the very first Captain America story that I read back in 1977 in an issue of Marvel Super Action. It was a reprint book and the issue brought back to life was 102 drawn by the legendary Jack Kirby.
People often complain that nothing ever new happens in comics and that fans want it that way. They want to read for the hundredth time a fight between Character A and Character B. Now there may be some truth to that statement, but in the right hands an old story can take on new life. Besides most writers acknowledge that there are only so many plots.
