bad milwaukee press

I didn't know that it had happened until I got to work Saturday night, but everyone was eager to tell me about it as soon as I saw it appear on the television. What they told me was that Milwaukee was making headlines on news sites everywhere. There had been a shooting mere blocks from where I work and I was oblivious to that fact. In my defense this had taken place during the middle of the day when I was sleeping so I wasn't anywhere near that area, but it did still strike me as creepy.

I'm not sure if this comes across in the news coverage, but where the shooting took place is not a bad part of town. If anything it is probably where most of the money in Milwaukee is made on a daily basis with the hotel being on the edge of a huge business district. Plus where the shooting took place is a high profile spot where people who work in that area would quickly notice anything out of the ordinary or someone less than respectable.

Honestly, the only time that I see someone pulled over by the police in that area is when the vehicle looks run down. Otherwise the streets are filled with Lexus, BMW and assorted sport utility vehicles that do as they please. Murder is not an everyday event there and that probably added to the shock value of the crime.
