no clouds anywhere

The plan was a little unorthodox, but sounded simple enough. I would accompany my parents as they drove to retrieve a free piano that some relatives were giving them. They would be the ones making the four hour drive there, then upon arrival as a group we would jump out to load the piano and when everything was secure on the trailer we would turn around to make the same four hour drive back home. Since they would be doing all of the driving, I could just sit back and enjoy the ride. There was one small detail that we didn't think to consider. Today was so incredibly nice weather wise that those eight hours trapped inside a car seemed like a complete waste of the day.

Besides the unexpected weather, there was a minor mechanical failure with the trailer that set the whole timetable back at least three hours. So instead of being at our destination before the heat of the day had started, we were still on the road during that time.

I hadn't been to the Minocqua area since last August if I remember correctly and I was amazed at the near perfect April day that we had been given. Besides a complete absence of clouds, there wasn't a hint of wind when we were there. For being the middle of the day, the surface of the lake was almost ripple free and that was so unreal to see. Usually the only time that the lake is that placid is either early in the morning or after the sun has set. Throughout all of summer, the heat of the sun whips up the wind creating waves that don't die down until the sun goes down behind the horizon. That wasn't what I saw today. If it weren't for the bare trees, one might think that it was June and not April when we were there.

Staying there for such a short time was hard enough, but the unseasonably warm weather made climbing back into the car that much more difficult to do. I was more than willing to stay there for the rest of the day and make the return trip home tomorrow in the morning. Sadly that wasn't an option that we could explore. Of the group I was the only one who didn't have something to do the next morning.
