felt like june

To take full advantage of the unseasonably warm weather, I grilled outside today for the first time in weeks. Standing there watching the smoke rise, it truly felt like an afternoon in June instead of the beginning of November. I didn't mind it at all and knew that it wouldn't last long so I savored it while I could.

Since Galileo was never born in the book The Years of Rice and Salt, it was left to the Muslim community to contemplate the mysteries of gravity. In the latest chapters that I read, they dropped various items to see them fall at the same rate just as Galileo did in his scientific career. From what has been said in the book, the primary source for understanding physics came from Aristotle and refuting his findings it where they are now in terms of understanding how the world works. So what they know is limited and flawed. Besides gaining a somewhat better understanding of gravity, they also created a vacuum and experimented with the effect that it has on sound.

These latest chapters were interesting, but at the same time, I have lost any real desire to finish the book which explains why I haven't picked it up in weeks. Instead I have been more than happy to consume more Mark Gruenwald era Captain America books.

Between the summer food and reading, I don't think that I could have asked for a better Wednesday.
