edinburgh glasgow stirling Early this morning, I started doing some serious research for my upcoming trip to Scotland and was pleased with how much I had accomplished. For me, whenever I start a new trip, one of the first things that I need to do is get some price quotes on airfare. Having been to Europe three times already, I know that airfare costs get more expensive in the summer months so I wasn't surprised to see a difference of three hundred dollars between a flight in May and one in June. From what I have read the weather in Scotland isn't that much different in May than in June so I am leaning more towards a May departure date anyway. Nothing has been finalized yet. With the American dollar being so week in comparison to the British pound, I knew ahead of time that local costs in Scotland were going to be high, but the hotel rates that I have seen online so far have been very discouraging. Anything under one hundred American dollars a night seems to be non existent as far as I can tell. I am starting to think that a bed and breakfast of some sort might be a better option for lodging this trip. That isn't something that I usually do, but I may not have a choice this time. I had contemplated going to Ireland as well as Scotland on this trip, but I am starting to think that I could easily spend two weeks just in Scotland. Three days in three different cities might be enough for a first trip to Scotland, but at the same time I don't want to neglect the Hebrides. ... My brother sent me a Powerpoint presentation of some recent photos that he had taken in Iraq. They documented a humanitarian trip his outfit had made to a local school. I was both impressed and moved by the photos. They were so unlike the Iraq photos that the news like to show. The people in the photos were smiling. I was envious of my brother being able to have such an experience. |
