big city caterina

I've only been to Italy once in my travels so I can't say that I know the country well. In fact, all of my firsthand experience comes from the four days that I spent in Venice six years ago. Despite that very limited knowledge, I have often thought that the country as a whole is very divided. Americans tend to think of it as a solid unit when most Italians think of themselves as Venetians, Milanese or Romans first. That strong regional loyalty definitely played a part in the coming of age Italian film Caterina in the Big City as was demonstrated by some violent classroom discussions on politics.

From what I can remember, I wasn't very political in high school and know that I didn't vote until much later in life. That may or may not have been a good thing.
