russian love triangle Indifferent would be the word that I would choose to describe my overall reaction to tonight's play, A Month in the Country. I wasn't angered by it nor was I impressed by it. Without exaggeration it stirred no strong emotions in me whatsoever. In fact, when the intermission started, I thought that the play could have ended right there and it wouldn't have bothered me at all. It made no difference to me whether or not I found out if the lead character left her husband for the family friend or the tutor. I was that disinterested in the whole story. I have nothing against period drama and have a mild interest in things Russian, but the play that I saw tonight left no impression on me. Maybe something was lost in the interpretation from the original play. Maybe something in the story spoke more to a Russian audience than an American one. Something was definitely missing in the play for me to enjoy it. |
