indoor light glory Wednesday of this week, I picked up an audio copy of the Susan Vreeland novel Girl in Hyacinth Blue. What drew me to the book was the fact that a painting that may or may not be a Vermeer is the focal point of the story. Only part way through the first of five discs, I like what I am hearing. Just as the Vermeer painting Girl with Pearl Earring provided great source material for a story so does this painting. ... I suspect that my eBay winnings have something to do with it, but it wasn't until today that I read the last of the shipment from Mile High Comics that arrived in the mail last month. I see that amount of time as a positive trend. If I can space out my monthly reading to last a month rather than a week or two that should keep my costs down. The very last title from the stack that I read was Walter Simonson's Hawkgirl illustrated by Howard Chaykin. Kendra has become more interesting as a person without Carter around to overshadow her, but at the same time one can sense that he is going to return to the book somewhere down the line. The two of them are so closely intertwined that his absence cannot be ignored no matter how often Howard draws Kendra in her underwear complete with protruding nipples. ... Early this morning I finally did something that I have been meaning to do for months. I closed not one, but two of the credit card accounts that I have in my name. I hadn't used either one of them in months so there was no reason for me to have them anymore. It was a good feeling making those phone calls and cutting those pieces of plastic. What did annoy me slightly was the fact that I could not find an option online to close the accounts. It seems that the credit card companies want to speak with their customers before they make such a decision. ... Late last night my sister in law sent word that my brother may be home as early as the fifth of November. |
